We breathe ‘relief’, they ‘clear the air’ for us. Our soldiers on borders, on-duty 24*7. We enjoy 70 years of Independence, freedom-fighters sacrificed their lives for it. In India Patriotism is a noble virtue.

The Indian Armed Forces comprise three professional uniformed services: the Indian ArmyIndian Navy, and Indian Air Force. With strength of over 1.4 million active personnel, it is the world’s second largest military force and has the world’s largest volunteer army. Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year in India, in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa‘s (then a Lieutenant General) taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.

With the motto “Service Before Self”, they serve the nation.1948, Operation Polo to liberate Hyderabad; 1961, Operation Vijay to liberate Goa, Diu and Daman from Portuguese Rule; the un-ending struggle of liberating Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan, since 1947 till present. The surgical strikes of 2017 and 2019, India’s counter-strike to Pakistan’s increasing terrorist attacks, started after their defeat in Kargil war 1999.

Indian Armed Forces excel at Disaster Management. 2013, Uttarakhand flood; 2014, Jammu and Kashmir flood; 2015 Nepal Earthquake; 2015, operation Madad, to rescue flood affected people in Chennai; our soldiers rescued thousands of affected people bringing them to safety camps, risking their own lives.

Operation Sadbhavana or Operation Goodwill, launched in Jammu and Kashmir by the Indian Army, aimed at “Winning the Hearts and Minds” of the people, with catchphrase “Jawan aur Awam, Aman Hai Muqaam”.  Welfare initiatives include infrastructure development, medical care, women and youth empowerment, educational tours and sports tournaments. Over 450 crores have been directly spent on this programme.

The contribution of Indian Armed forces, in India’s development is immeasurable. Their sacrifices, strength and Bravery is laudable. Let us pay virtue to the Real Indian Heroes and their families, and pray for their long-lives. Jai Hind!
