“Presenting #TheKashmirFiles. Next year, same time, on our 73rd Independence anniversary, we will bring you the unreported story of the most tragic and gut-wrenching genocide of Kashmiri Hindus. Please bless our team as it’s not an easy story to tell. #KashmirUnreported”- Vivek Agnihotri
The #RightToTruth Movement continues with Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming “The Kashmir Files.” #KashmirUnreported. A film based on the genocide and mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandit’s, the largest ethnic cleansing that India has witnessed so far.
“With ‘The Kashmir Files’ my movement on #RightToTruth continues. This aspect of our history is under reported and has never made to the history books. We know about partition of India and even that of Bengal, Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Sepoy Mutiny, and other landmark incidents from the realms of history except the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits. In terms of the magnitude of this disaster, it can be dubbed as India’s holocaust yet it has never been documented systematically nor do we speak about it. Ask a twenty something in any of the big cities about this mishap, you will see them roll their eyes.”- says the director.
He added, “My primary objective to make this film is to throw light on history which has been amputated from public consciousness and hopefully tell a compelling story so that such a barbaric act may never be repeated. It is important for youth to know the struggles of this community, their loss, trauma, and the sheer callousness with which we have dismissed such a monstrous chapter in our history. A nation can build itself by learning from its history and such an important aspect of our history should not be omitted.”
Aligning with the appeal of honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and obliging to the script, “The Kashmir Files” will be cinematographed in real locations within Kashmir such as Shankaracharya Temple, Martand Sun Temple and other prominent locations. Starring an ensembled cast of most prominent actors of the country, the fil will be co- produced by Pallavi Joshi and one of the most successful studios.
“I have been working closely with the activists in Kashmir and spoken to top politicians. Initially I was planning a book, now it’s a film.” Says Vivek, who plans to visit all the places where the Kashmiri Pundit refugee have settled; from Jammu, Delhi, Mumbai to abroad, with an aim to record the first-hand account of the victims. His film “The Tashkent Files” evolved as the “Sleeper Hit” of 2019. It created a political awakening with #TheRightToTruth movement. Next year, on 73rd Independence Day, world will witness the unreported story of the most tragic and gut-wrenching genocide of Kashmiri Hindus with #KashmirUnreported.
