The Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi receives ‘Global Goal Keeper Award.’
While accepting the Award the PM said; “I dedicate the ‘Global Goalkeeper Award’ to the 130-crore people of India and the collective endeavors of our nation to improve cleanliness. The success of the Swachh Bharat Mission is due to the people of India. They made this their own movement and ensured the desired results were attained. It makes me most happy that India’s successes in sanitation have helped women and children the most.”
He added; “In last five years a record more than 11 crore toilets were constructed. If this mission has benefited someone the most, it is the poor of this country and the women. The Swachh Bharat campaign has benefited women the most; it was one of the biggest problems for the women and daughters. They used to wait for evening to go out to defecate. Many girls had to drop out of school due to lack of a toilet in schools. It was the responsibility of my government to tackle this problem and we did it with sincerity.”
PM Modi launched the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ in the year 2014. In October 2014, the sanitation coverage was 39%, which drastically increased with each coming year. In October 2019 the sanitation coverage shall be 100%, i.e. India shall become 100% Open Defecation Free!
Under the political leadership of the Prime Minister, 130-crore of Indians united to fulfill the century old dream of the father of our Nation, who believed “Sanitation is more important than independence;” making ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ the largest sanitation revolution in the world.
