“The Draupadi Saga and India’s Cultural Heritage” Pallavi Joshi in conversation with Sonal Mansingh

The Cultural Icon; Padma Vibhushan Sonal Mansingh narrates the story of most important female character from Hindu Epic ‘Mahabharata’; ‘DRAUPADI’. Projecting the perspective of a women, her grief, agony and anguish over the patriarchal society she epitomizes a bit of ‘Draupadi’ in every woman on earth.

Awarded with Padma Bhushan-1992; Sangeet Natak Academy Award-1987; Padma Vibhushan-2003; Kalidas Samman by Madhya Pradesh government- 2006 and other accolades like ‘Singar Mani’ from Haridas Sangeet Sammelan, ‘Natya Kala Ratna’ from National Cultural Organization, ‘Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award’, ‘Indira Priya Darshini Awards’ and many more.

The Bharatanatyam, Chhau dance and Indian music proficient, is also the founder of ‘Centre for Indian Classical Dances (CICD), Delhi’. Her renowned choreographic works based on Indian Mythology as well as contemporary issues include ‘Indradhanush’, Manavata’, ‘Sabras’, ‘Devi Durga’, ‘Aatmayan’, ‘Mera Bharat’, ‘Draupadi’ etc. Enchanting the stage by her beautiful charisma since 1964; she has traveled widely and performed all over India and abroad.

“A dancer is not just a dancer. He/she is part of this environment. He/she does not exist in a vacuum. Society and its happenings have an impact on all individuals, especially artists. If an art form does not reflect the existing milieu, it stagnates.” says Sonal Mansingh

Expressing her viewpoints on Westernization, Modernization, Feminism, Digital-Technological world and Artificial Intelligence; she hints the future of Art and Culture in the coming years. Describing the thought process of next-gen, upbringing of children and the loop-holes in today’s parenting; she emphasizes on behavioral impact, body language, importance of dressing up well and portrays the real art of living life.
